Improved Harmony Search Algorithm to Compute the Underfrequency Load Shedding Parameters

The power system continuously deals with frequency fluctuations. When a disturbance occurs, the transmission operators rely on underfrequency load shedding (UFLS) scheme to address severe (UF) events maintain at permissible level and prevent blackouts. Defining settings of conventional UFLS is very complex problem due nonlinear nature response, size vast because number UF-relays spread system. under or over total disconnection produced by wrong setting can create secondary even blackout. This paper introduces novel method compute an optimally parametrized in specific given operating conditions formulating it as constrained using Improved Harmony Search (IHS) algorithm solve it. Since there no previous knowledge IHS scheme, numerical parameter sensitivity analysis (PSA) developed tune algorithm. IEEE 39-bus was modelled DIgSILENT® PowerFactory™ used test methodology presented this reveals superior results against suitability confirmed.
